The goal of the PLAYISNOTJUSTFORKIDS project is to establish a not-for-profit organization that increases access to the therapeutic and expansive powers of mindfulness and playfulness. We aim to provide an all-expense-paid PLAYCATION, rooted in playfulness and mindfulness, to two families nominated by, and funded by, their own communities. We want to help families expand playfully and mindfully together, two cities at a time!
What is a PLAYCATION?
A PLAYCATION is a weeklong paid vacation, filled with a custom schedule of fully funded local activities of Mindfulness and Playfulness! The PLAYISNOTJUSTFORKIDS project pays the wages of the employed family member(s) for up to 5 days, so that they can take paid time away from work. The FAMILY ON PLAYCATION will arrange to spend their paid time off residing at home, connecting mindfully and playfully in their own local community through a variety of activities offered at no expense to the FAMILY ON PLAYCATION through generous partnerships in play.
A network of local businesses, community resources, libraries, public and private service providers, venues and programs, comprise our PARTNERS IN PLAY. They collaborate with us to offer their goods and services to the FAMILY ON PLAYCATION at half price, and the PLAYISNOTJUSTFORKIDS project provides payment for those goods and services.
What does a FAMILY ON PLAYCATION do?
We'll collect details about the family's preferences and interests in order to tailor the family's PLAYCATION experience uniquely to them and their local community. Options provided by our PARTNERS IN PLAY can range from attending a local concert or comedy show, to taking a golf or ski lesson, to having a private cooking class or gourmet restaurant meal, to a boat excursion, a guided hiking tour, and mountainside trolley ride. Community-based PARTNERS IN PLAY help to make all of this possible. Special Modern Play Therapy (MPT) workshops will be scheduled daily to support preparation, integration, and expansion through mindfulness and playfulness for the FAMILY ON PLAYCATION.
Who are Families in Need of a PLAYCATION?
Families in Need of a PLAYCATION are families of people who are Veterans, who are Immigrants, who are Queer or Trans, families of people with physical, emotional or intellectual disabilities, people with caregiving responsibilities, families of people who have experienced incarceration, foster care, adoption, or homelessness.
